MAVERICK REPORT: AMERICA’S MORAL COMPASS IS ASKEW
America has perpetual mass shooting and police violence problems. It is perpetual because America's Culture can't seem to deal with the evil grip it is under by organized terror.
In their perpetual Report, “The Beat(ing) Goes On”, SVC Executive Directors Pam Shriver, JC Watts, Calista Meyers and Beth Gilchrist have written 595 Articles concerning America’s violent society over the past 13½ years. The series started with the recording of the Sutton International Complaint on SVC’s 2012 International Founder’s Day. The title is a play on Sonny & Cher’s hit single and the fact that beating of SVC’s President by Missoula Police Officer, Kurt Trowbridge continues until the paid assassin and all those involved are brought to Justice! https://www.svctrailblazerpublications.com/beat-ing-goes-on
The International Investigators have reviewed 14,000 police killings in the United States since 5 April 2012. Only one in seven appears to be legitimate. Legitimate meaning the killings were in self-defense, defense of others’ lives and/or property. The other 85% are outright murder under the law and they will be prosecuted.
The aftermath of every mass shooting follows a now-routine pattern: Feverish coverage will be followed by politicians and pundits engaging in a predictable conversation about Gun-safety Legislation. All of which we know by now. Of course, America needs universal background checks; America needs need to close all loopholes; America needs to outlaw bump stocks; and America needs need to outlaw assault/military weapons and the bullets needed to shoot them. But Politicians trotting out various forms of I-will-do-this-or-that neither gets to the heart of the matter nor breaks the logjam that has made this horrific and uniquely American problem so intractable.
It is not just America’s Gun Policy but American Politics that fails to free Americans of this insanity. Until Americans override the nefarious influence of organized terrorism in their body-politic, it will not be possible to break domestic terror’s chokehold on American Society. It is not the will nor safety of the People but the fear of activism against terrorism that is given primacy in the Political debate.
But even then, Americans will have to look deeper for the causal layers of the epidemic of violence. Americans will have to look beyond Politics. They will have to look at themselves. Too many Americans are now idle in terms of Political Activism.
SVC’s President, Phil Sutton, wrote Revival of the American Dream and Founded SVC to imbue a sense of Social Responsibility and desire for Public Policy activism that current Americans have all but forgotten.
So many Americans desire to have SVC’s Founder run for U.S. President and/or remove Donald Trump and replace Trump. Given how SVC’s President has struggled to find demonstrative support to put down the American Organized Terror Opprobrium, it is difficult to conceive a scenario that he would even seriously consider it. He’s not going to waste his time attempting to revive the lost cause America has become.
Most Politicians stick to a discussion of symptoms only. Politics should be the conduit for our most expanded conversation about Societal Issues, not the most superficial one. Conventional Politics does not lend itself to a discussion of the deeper issues that plagues everyone. Yet go deeper Americans must.
America does not just have a gun crisis; it has a cultural crisis. America’s moral compass is askew big time. Americans will not stop experiencing the effects of gun and police violence until they’re ready to face the many ways that their culture is riddled with violence.
America’s Environmental Policies are violent toward the Earth. America’s Criminal Justice System is violent towards People like the Victims of the AOTO who have led exemplary Lives but have had them ruined by corrupt Government Officials and Employees.
America’s Economic system is violent toward the poor. America’s Entertainment Media is violent towards Women. American video games are violent in their effect on the minds of Children. America’s News Media is violent in its knee-jerk shaming and blaming for the sake of a better click rate. Americans have violent hearts as they abandon each other constantly, breeding desperation and insanity. And America’s Governments at all levels are indirectly and directly violent in the countless ways it uses its power to help those who do not need help and to withhold support from those who do.
The darker truth that Americans must face now is this: their Society is not just steeped in violence; they are hooked on violence. And in area after area, there are those who make billions of dollars on deepening the hook. Until Americans cognate that, they will just have more violence. American minds must awaken so we can see all this. American hearts must awaken so they can change all this. And American Politics must change so we can discuss all this.
Though Gun-safety Legislation should be fervently pursued, a Political establishment so steeped in the ways of brute force is hardly equipped to be the purveyor of a solution to the problem of violence in the once great America.
With the US Air Force seeking 100 stealth B-21 Raiders, each with a price tag of $550 million and each equipped to carry both nuclear and conventional weapons, while 15 million Children in the United States live in food-insecure homes - the idea of Politicians who allow this to happen being the ones who are going to save America from the epidemic of violence in America is almost laughable.
Americans will not break free of dysfunctional realities until they are willing to embrace more functional ones. SVC proposes a U.S. Department of Peace to coordinate and harness the powers of Conflict Resolution; restorative Justice; violence prevention; trauma-informed Education; mindfulness in the Schools; Child and Family wrap-around services; social and emotional learning; and to move build SVC’s World-class International Institute of Peace & Democracy to Train and to deploy thousands of Peace-builders, plus National Conferences and a Presidential task force for Peace creation. Americans must make every effort to promote a culture of Peace both at home and abroad. Americans must address the root causes, not just the symptoms of violence in America. And in time, Americans will transform their Culture from one of conflict to one of Peace.
Nothing is going to fundamentally change until enough Americans are willing to take a stand for fundamental change. And no change could be more fundamental than for the United States to transform from a culture of violence to a culture of Peace. From the frequency of attacks to the frequency of forgiveness. From a land of fear to a land of Love!
