KEY QUOTE: I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve. - Japanese Admiral Isoruko Yamamoto
EVENT/CURRENT ISSUE: National Unity & America’s Future
SVC’s President has always quoted Admiral Yamamoto in all his books because the only time Americans truly lived up to the “United” in the country’s name was when the USA mobilized to fight World War II after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.
An U.S. Naval Aviator originally assigned to Pearl Harbor, SVC’s President notes the numbers for armament production U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed in his 1942 State Union Address, which still stagger the imagination. It was exactly what Yamamoto feared most.
Yamamoto knew because the forces he commanded failed to sink the U.S.S. Enterprise Carrier Group that the United States would eventually comeback to defeat Japan. Yamamoto earned an Economics Degree from Harvard University and spent time touring the country, studying its resources and industries.
In an ironic twist of fate, a modern version of the U.S.S. Enterprise Carrier Group had just cleared the Suez Canal when the September 11, 2001 al Qaeda attacks occurred and was ordered right back to the Middle East even though the flotilla had completed its normal six-month tour of duty at sea.
The question simply is: Can the American People ever be truly united? Yes or no. Defend your answer as to why.
